In the bustling streets of Osaka - Japan, amidst the neon lights and ancient traditions, we found ourselves immersed in a journey that would forever change our perspective on our morning caffeine. One, doing his master's studies in Japan, the other visiting his friend to travel around the country.
As we roamed the Osaka area, seeking excitement and cultural immersion, we saw advertisements and tours for the tea gardens. Sounds boring at first being in your mid 20's but turned out to be a true tranquil haven of Japan - Uji – the paradise of Japanese green tea.
In this amazing scenery of Japanese nature, we discovered a world of serenity and tranquility unlike any other. It was a quintessential Japanese experience, where the peace of the tea farms developed a calmness inside.
During the guided tour, we were introduced to Uji's most prized treasure – Matcha. Though familiar with Matcha as a trendy beverage among young urban professionals, we had never truly experienced its essence until then. As hardcore coffee enthusiasts, we were initially skeptical. Yet, with each sip of Matcha, we were brought to a realm of unparalleled calmness, coupled with a surge of energy. At the same time our guide kept bragging about the myriad health benefits only.
As we are stubborn and wary by default, we couldn't deny the allure of this tea.
On the train back to from Osaka to Tokyo, we envisioned a venture – introducing matcha to a wider audience, to bridge the gap between coffee culture and the matcha motion.
Our shared passion for Matcha made us drink many more matcha's during the trip and let to a determination of making it accessible and familiar to former coffee drinkers like ourselves.
And so, from that train ride back to Tokyo, the seeds of their business were sown – advocating for Matcha as not just a beverage, but a lifestyle, a green alternative to the ubiquitous coffee culture of Europe.
